USC MS in Business Analytics Sample Essays
Please describe the contributions you expect to make to your classmates during your time at USC?
My experience with the community has underlined the importance of teamwork, passion, and community to success, values I plan to incorporate during my time at USC Marshall. My main goal at Marshall is professional growth and opportunity, however, I believe the best way to achieve it is by fostering a united community that supports one another in his or her success.
Aside from academics and recruitment support, I plan to engage with the Business of Entertainment Association, which will offer opportunities such as networking and company treks that are relevant to my field. Additionally, the Graduate Women in Business will contribute to my development as a female leader and promote a supportive female community. Moreover, I intend to become a leader in clubs, a member of the Marshall Graduate Student Association, and a participator in the Challenge for Charity competition. Through these activities, I will become an involved member and a leader in the community.
Having talked Danielle Dolinsky, a current student, I see USC Marshall and USC in general as a school that encourages its students to collaborate, empower, support, and learns from one another. Per my experiences and values, I will be thrilled to become a member of such a community, create meaningful friendships with my fellow students as we take steps to further our careers, and make Marshall a supportive and inclusive home to all.
Tell us about a time when you went beyond what was defined, established, or expected. (200 words)
April 2013: I left a satisfying and well-paying job in the USA and moved back to India to pursue my dream of becoming a change-agent here. While my exposure to American culture, where innovation and risk-taking are celebrated, had conditioned me for this leap, my mission’s uncertain and irreversible nature created fear and doubt in my mind. With Maslow’s epochal words (‘What a man can do, he must do’) ringing in my ears, I jumped, and how!
Fate favors the brave, and it brought me an opportunity in the form of Elections 2013, where I campaigned actively, working with people of rural India to gain a deeper cultural understanding of their environment, lifestyle, problems, and needs, realizing the importance of value-creation through sustainable and optimal resource utilization. Professional experience with a Fortune 500 company combined with my grass-root level interactions enabled me to develop products for the diverse yet specific needs of India’s agriculture sector, employing 50% of India’s workforce without over-reliance on government subsidies.
Leaving an established life with a defined career path and venturing into a journey of creating social impact allowed me to not only realize my true potential but also create a foundation for sustainable economic progress.
